A Focus on Ocular Wellness: The Annual Visit

Dr. Fishman often spends 1-3 hours with you at your comprehensive and detailed “front-to-back of the eye” ocular wellness annual visit.  The annual visit involves intensive front-to-back imaging of your eye (numerous OCT scan modalities, visual field testing, corneal mapping of the front and back surface, high speed video dry eye analysis, retinal imaging, dilated ophthalmic examination and refraction) which he then uses to assess your overall ocular health.  He summarizes these findings and has an ocular and systemic wellness discussion with all of his patients.  Dr. Fishman performs these analyses in a single visit. Finally, Dr. Fishman actively uses telemedicine to then follow-up on issues and spend additional time to explain and “unpack” all lingering questions or issues that are identified in this visit.

Dr. Fishman’s overall goal is to improve your systemic health by improving the health of your eyes and your vision. Because the eye is a microcosm of the total body, Dr. Fishman can identify signs of systemic disease through advanced testing and through direct observation. Common examples of systemic diseases that can be diagnosed on a careful ophthalmic exam include diabetes, high blood pressure, autoimmune disease, gastrointestinal disease (like crohn’s or ulcerative colitis), brain tumors, sexually transmitted diseases and the list grows every year.
